About the theory and hazard perception test

The test is computer-based where you will be required to answer a series of questions. It is designed to assess your knowledge of the Highway Code, key driving facts, hazard perception and situational awareness.
It is advisable to book your theory test shortly after starting your driving lessons as there is usually a waiting time of over 2 weeks. Our approved driving instructor (ADI) can help you with any theory queries you may have and assess your hazard perception while you are driving.
The theory and hazard perception test has two parts:
-
Part A - multiple choice: This is to test your understanding of the theory behind driving
-
Part B - the hazard perception test: This module consists of 14 video clips (without sound) which are displayed to you to test your ability to spot potential driving hazards
You have to pass both tests to have an overall pass. If you pass just one part you'll have to take both parts again. The theory test costs £23.00. Once you pass the theory test, you can apply for the practical test.
